Why does NASBA certification matter for CPE?
- How do you know your auditors pay attention to the continuing education you buy for them?
- How do you know they’re learning anything?
- How do you prove to your peer reviewer you obtained valid continuing education credits?
The answer to all of these questions is to get your CPE from a NASBA certified provider.
What’s NASBA?
NASBA is an acronym standing for the National Association of State Boards of Public Accountancy. They regulate continuing education for CPAs.
I know you aren’t a CPA. But because CPAs must take gobs of CPE in order to keep their licenses (and had to for over a hundred years!), CPAs learned a few things about how to ensure quality in continuing education.
They learned you must hold instructors and authors to high learning development standards. Otherwise, the classes and self-studies could be weak and inaccurate. Also, they learned you must hold the students accountable for learning the material by putting controls in place. This prevents them from saying they finished and know their stuff. But, in reality, they haven’t even looked at the materials!
Yes, some CPAs are slippery little tricksters who try to circumvent the CPE requirement. Hard to believe, I know. And some vendors sell their products and services throughout the entire seminar instead of teaching the participants a lick of relevant information. Maybe that one isn’t as hard to believe…
So, NASBA’s controls have put a stop to these shenanigans. Not completely, because you know a way can be found around any control… But, hey, at least they set a standard and at least NASBA and NASBA certified CPE providers try.
NASBA official statement
YellowBook-CPE.com is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be submitted to the National Registry of CPE Sponsors through its website: www.NASBARegistry.org.
It is no easy task to earn NASBA’s seal of approval, but YellowBook-CPE.com has their blessing for its self-studies, webinars, and live seminars.
Other CPE vendors don’t want to go through the trouble and put all of those costly controls in place. And believe us, we understand why those vendors avoid NASBA. It is an expensive pain to meet all of NASBA’s expectations.
But we think the resulting quality is worth it: Our continuing education is top-notch! Give it a try and tell us what you think.
As a matter of fact, getting your feedback and correcting our CPE based on your feedback is one of NASBA’s standards. Pretty cool, right?
