Description
$150 (per person) includes an online webinar for 2 hours of CPE credit
“What gets measured gets managed.” – Peter Drucker.
But in government auditing, what you measure also shapes how you’re perceived.
High-performing audit shops don’t just track how many audits they complete. They focus on measuring the real value they deliver – insights, improvements, and meaningful outcomes for their agencies.
This 2-hour webinar gives you a practical framework for measuring internal audit performance in a way that resonates with leadership and drives continuous improvement. You’ll learn how to identify the right metrics, avoid the traps of “checklist thinking,” and build scorecards reflecting your audit function’s true impact.
Led by Jonathan Chapman, this course will cover practical strategies for selecting impactful metrics and scorecards aligning with your audit goals. Jonathan will share his experience in designing and implementing successful performance measurement systems across both large and small audit functions, highlighting the benefits of measurement for accountability and continuous improvement.
We’ll also tackle the risks of poorly designed metrics – those that can backfire and lead to unintended consequences – so you can measure smarter, not just more.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize the requirements of the new Global Internal Audit Standards (Standard 12.2) relating to performance measurement
- Review diverse approaches to measuring audit performance and how to embed them into your audit operations
- Identify the key success factors and common pitfalls in designing meaningful performance metrics
- Review practical examples of internal audit performance scorecards, including their development and organizational impact
- Describe how performance measures can be used to demonstrate value to key stakeholders, including audit committees and agency leadership
- Determine how to use performance data to drive continuous improvement, enhance audit planning, and strengthen your audit team’s strategic alignment
- Describe insights from real-world case studies to strengthen performance measurement in your own internal audit function
